Neurological Surgery

Martin G. Luken, III, M.D., is a member of the Chicago Institute of Neurosurgery and Neuroresearch (CINN); a founding member of the CINN Institute for Spine Care; an assistant professor of neurosurgery at Rush Medical College, Rush University Medical Center, Chicago, Illinois, and Associate Medical Director of the CINN program at Ingalls Hospital in Harvey, Illinois.

A board-certified neurosurgeon with over 25 years of experience, Dr. Luken has a wealth of experience treating the full spectrum of neurological conditions. Highly regarded for his surgical skill, Dr. Luken has a special interest and expertise in caring for patients with brain and spinal cord tumors, as well as degenerative diseases of the spine.

Dr. Luken earned his medical degree in 1973 from Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. He spent the next two years as an internal medicine intern and an assistant resident at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. In 1975, he moved to Chicago where he held a yearlong surgical residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Medical Center. In 1976, Dr. Luken returned to New York as an assistant resident and later, chief resident of neurosurgery at the Neurological Institute of New York, Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. During his residency, Dr. Luken won the prestigious Annual Resident Award from the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.

After completing his residency, Dr. Luken returned to Chicago where he accepted the role of attending neurosurgeon at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center and several other Chicago area hospitals. In 1994, Dr. Luken joined the medical staff of Children's Memorial Hospital and in 1997, the staffs of CINN and Rush University Medical Center.

Dr. Luken is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Neurological Society of America, and Congress of Neurological Surgeons.
